No hike for RTC staff for five years

As per the pay scale agreement, the corporation has to increase the salaries of its employees every four years

HYDERABAD: The TSRTC was supposed to provide salary increment for its 47,000 employees in April 2017 but is yet to announce a salary hike five years on. Their dearness allowance for three years and two salary hikes have remained pending for long.

As per the pay scale agreement, the corporation has to increase the salaries of its employees every four year. They were entitled to get a salary increment from April 1, 2017, but the amount had not been credited to their accounts.

While the TSRTC authorities claim that the organisation is in dire straits, as it recorded a cumulative loss of Rs 9,000 crore, RTC employees and unions contradict this statement.

Daniel Praveen Kumar, assistant depot clerk, TSRTC, said, “We are helpless. It is difficult to take care of our families with the insufficient salary. Pay hike is our right. We are eligible for two hikes and six DAs. We are not asking anything more. What we deserve should be given to us. The authorities should make some efforts to pay our rightful wage.”

Former RTC board director M. Nageswara Rao said, “The TSRTC workers have been neglected by the government. When compared with other government or public sector employees, their hard work is more, but still they are deprived of their rights of wage. In the 54 years history of the road transport corporation, such a thing has never happened.”
