M Karunanidhi's NSG cover to be withdrawn?

The NSG has recommended that Mr Karunanidhi's security cover be withdrawn during its annual exercise of pruning the list.

Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister M. Karunanidhi will lose his National Security Guard (NSG) cover if home minister Rajnath Singh accepts a recommendation in this regard by the agency, which prunes the list every year of the people it protects according to re-evaluated threat perceptions.

The NSG has recommended that Mr Karunanidhi’s security cover be withdrawn during its annual exercise of pruning the list. However, only home minister Rajnath Singh will take a final decision on this, sources said on Friday. The decision to withdraw security cover for Mr Karunanidhi and three other former CMs, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, were taken at a meeting last week. The NSG keeps pruning its list every year and carries out periodic review of all those on the protection list.
