Karnataka: KC Venugopal cold-shoulders Congressmen from home

Venugopal tells party workers seeking cop transfers that he won't meddle in governance.

Bengaluru: In an effort to send a strong signal to party workers in general and those from his home state, Kerala, in particular, AICC general secretary, K. C. Venugopal is learnt to have instructed party workers not to bring any issue that involves administrative intervention like transfer of police officers, to him.

This instruction came in the wake of a group of Malayali party workers meeting him frequently at the Kumarakrupa Guest House, where he is staying for the last four days and coming up with requests to recommend transfers of police officers. "Mostly these leaders have real estate business interests," the source explained on the condition of anonymity to Deccan Chronicle.

The source claimed that Venugopal angrily reacted as soon as a leader placed a request for transfer of a police officer from a particular station saying he had come all the way from New Delhi to improve the party's prospects and not to effect transfers. "I am not interested in interfering in administrative matters, instead I believe in helping the party improve its tally instead of squandering its opportunity like this," the source explained quoting Venugopal.

The source said that what realy irked Venugopal was the fact that party leaders were coming to him asking for favours rather talking about the party's revival before the 2018 Assembly polls, just a year away."

The source added that another state Congress leader who was present on the occasion explained to him that this was how the party had been affected because of the habit of AICC leaders getting involved in administrative matters. "Now Congress party workers do not even hesitate to ask for favours from a newly appointed AICC general secretary like Venugopal. This is what has happened ever since the Congress party came to power in 2013," the source explained.
