UDF meet evades blame game

The CMP, RSP and JD(U) had drawn a blank in the elections.

Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF meeting held here on Tuesday felt that the minority vote consolidation in favour of the LDF and shifting of a large section of voters to the BJP had led to the defeat of the front in the elections. The leaders refrained from a blame game and assessed that the UDF cabinet’s last decisions to grant additional bar licences to several bar hotels and on paddy reclamation had boomeranged.

Earlier, the Muslim League leaders had alleged in Kozhikode that the disunity in the Congress was the major reason for the debacle. RSP leader N. K. Premachandran said the front had failed to assess the growth of the communal forces. He urged that efforts should be taken at the micro level to strengthen the front.

Kerala Congress (M) chairman K. M. Mani also said the poll outcome was unexpected. CMP leader C. P. John, who was defeated at Kunnamkulam, also shared the same view. The CMP, RSP and JD(U) had drawn a blank in the elections. On Monday, the KPCC executive meeting had decided to hold a camp executive meeting on June 4 and 5.
