PMK sees itself as third largest party in Tamil Nadu
Chennai: The PMK meeting of office-bearers which met on Tuesday to discuss the Assembly election results, noted that the party had emerged as the third biggest party in the state and the alternative to the major Dravidian parties.
A resolution passed at the meeting of party deputy general secretaries, district secretaries and MLA candidates vowed to fight for people’s issues. The party also sought proportional representation in the Assembly as per the votes secured by parties. Though, 59.20 per cent of people had voted against the AIADMK, it had become the ruling party, which is against democracy, the party said in a resolution. Parties which obtained 22 per cent of the votes have no representation in the Assembly, the party noted.
The PMK sought disqualification of the AIADMK and DMK candidates in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur instead of postponing the elections. The party also wanted election reforms and sought a legislation to disqualify a party when it is found that its candidates had distributed cash for votes in ten per cent of the seats. It also sought a ban on election surveys from the date of poll announcement.
The PMK sought permanent scrapping of entrance tests for medical courses and urgent steps to get Cauvery water from Karnataka for kurivai cultivation.
