Pinarayi Vijayan, the fifth CM from Kannur
E.M.S, R. Shankar, K. Karunakaran and E.K. Nayanar precedes Pinarayi as chief ministers from Kannur
Kannur: Pinarayi Vijayan is the fifth chief minister, and third by birth, from Kannur. 1n 1957, first Kerala CM E.M.S Namboodiripad represented Neeleswaram two-member constituency in the undivided Kannur district. The third chief minister, R. Shankar was elected from Kannur constituency when he became the CM in 1962, though he hailed from Travancore.
K. Karunakaran, who became the fifth CM, belonged to Kadalayi in Kannur though he was elected from Mala in Thrissur seven times. Ninth chief minister E.K. Nayanar was from Kalliasseri. He represented Malampuzha and Trikaripur twice and Thalassery once.
