Chennai: Dravidian majors launch no-holds barred attack
Chennai: Even as the BJP leaders embraced the Chowkidar campaign, the Dravidian majors launched a no-holds barred attack on each other. AIADMK joint coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who has emerged as the star campaigner for his alliance, fired sharp barbs at DMK president M.K. Stalin.
As Stalin who hopped from district to district, went hammer and tongs on the BJP and the AIADMK leadership, BJP state president Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan who is contesting from the southern Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency where she would take on Kanimozhi, DMK Rajya Sabha MP and daughter of late DMK stalwart M. Karunanidhi, came to the rescue of Mr. Palaniswami and said Stalin was "stooping to a low in electoral politics" in criticising the leaders. And as if to spice up the poll campaign, her paternal uncle and Congress candidate for Kanyakumari, legislator H. Vasanth Kumar who would take on Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan, has accused the Central Minister of winning the 2014 Lok Sabha election by uttering "lies." "Unlike Ponnar, I will not tell lies and win the election. Radhakrishnan assured to ensure scholarship for the Hindu students when he contested from Kanyakumari but his poll assurance has never materialised," Vasanth Kumar said. He also took a dig at the BJP on the development and good governance planks and said, "Nation can't prosper by constructing a bridge." Interestingly Radhakrishnan who has decided to leave his electoral fate to be decided by the people of Kanyakumari, claimed that he has been urged to relocate to some other Lok Sabha constituency. "I declined. I leave everything in the hands of my people of Kanyakumari to decide my victory or defeat," Radhakrishnan said and added leaders like late Chief Ministers J. Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi had asked him to contest from some other constituency.
