Why didn't DMK condemn defilement of Lord Ram portrait: H Raja

The DMK had opposed the entry of the Ram Rajya Rath Yatra into Tamil Nadu.

Chennai: BJP national secretary H. Raja has condemned the desecration of Lord Ram’s portrait at Mayiladuthurai and sought to know why the DMK has not condemned the incident.

Taking strong exception to the incident on March 21, Mr. Raja said “I am surprised that DMK and others who held the Assembly to ransom on Ram Rajya Rath Yatra didn’t condemn this incident. Let Hindus wake up.”

Fourteen persons were arrested on the charge of publicly defiling a portrait of Lord Ram while protesting the decapitation of social reformer Periyar’s statue, on Wednesday.

The DMK had opposed the entry of the Ram Rajya Rath Yatra into Tamil Nadu and had even unsuccessfully raised the issue in the Assembly during the Budget session. But after the party MLAs including DMK working president M. K. Stalin were evicted en masse from the Assembly House, the DMK members staged a road roko agitation in front of the Secretariat resulting in their arrest. They were later let off.

Taking a dig at the DMK’s demeanour, Mr. Raja tweeted, “the Ram Rajya Rath Yatra was taken out in Tamil Nadu in a peaceful manner with people’s support. A police official said 2.5 lakh persons took part in the yatra. (And) the tension was created in the Assembly by the DMK and anti-Hindu elements.”
