Tamil Nadu polls: ECI allotted 15 common symbols
Chennai: Election commission of India has allotted 15 common symbols for recently registered Tamil Nadu political parties.
According to public election department sources new parties have demanded common symbols and have expressed that they would be contesting in all the 234 constituencies of Tamil Nadu. Considering the request of these parties ECI has allocated 15 common symbols for Tamil Nadu.
Some of the allocated symbols include auto rickshaw, gas stove, bucket, and telephone. For fledgling Nam Thamizhar Katchi, ECI has allocated candles.
Similarly VCK can continue with their common symbol whistle. Earlier in the day PMK leader G.K. Mani met public election officials and submitted a memorandum seeking a free and fair polls on May 16.
Meanwhile CEO Rajesh Lakhoni on Thursday declared all polling stations as no smoking zones and said 16 mobile voter service vehicles would be deployed to assist public on poll related services in city.
He also said 18,788 people have submitted their licensed arms due to model code across TN. Later in the day, Chennai corporation in a press release said booths with more population of voters have been identified and will be divided into two small booths.
Sixty-nine additional booths will be set up in city and 88 booths, chosen for shifting to benefit voters, the release added.
