10 senior leaders join race for Telangana BJP top post

Hyderabad: As many as 10 senior leaders of the state BJP are said to have asked the party’s national observers to consider their candidature for appointment as its Telangana state unit president.

BJP general secretary Anil Jain and party vice-president Baijayant Panda on Monday visited the city to elicit the opinions of the party state core committee leaders. The one-on-one meetings were held in the state party office here.

 

Sources in the party disclosed that incumbent TS BJP president Dr K. Laxman, BJP MP Bandi Sanjay, Arvind Dharmapuri, former MP A.P. Jitendher Reddy, former minister D.K. Aruna, former legislators Ch. Ramachandra Reddy and N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, party official spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao and senior leader P. Chandrasekhar requested the leaders that they be considered for the post.

Sources revealed that all the claimants faced an inconvenient situation when the national BJP leaders asked them to suggest alternatives.

The duo also secured the opinion of some vice-presidents of the BJP state unit and official spokespersons the party besides the core committee members.
Sources disclosed that a majority of the leaders expressed the opinion that the state leadership should be changed, against the backdrop of reports that the party may retain Dr Laxman.

Other leaders told the observers that they will secure the opinion from ground-level leaders before submitting a report to party president J.P. Nadda. The observers spent six hours to poll the opinions of the state leaders.

Sources said that in a couple of days there will be likely to be clarity on how the state leadership will be shaped.
