Nod for quota in promotions today, says Dr G Parameshwar

Giving a clarion call for unity of the SC community, Dr Parameshwar said.

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr G. Parameshwar, who was in Davanagere on Sunday to participate in the district Chalavadi Mahasabha function, said that rules for reservation in promotions would be approved in the next cabinet meeting on Monday.

“The framing of rules is almost complete. We will submit them in the cabinet for approval,” Dr Parameshwar announced. He and Social Welfare Minister, Priyank Kharge seem to have taken upon themselves the task of securing justice for government employees, who were given demotion after the Supreme Court struck down the state government legislation. “Seven people committed suicide after the SC struck down our legislation. That’s why we have started taking corrective measures. Within a week, we will implement the new law,” he said.

Giving a clarion call for unity of the SC community, Dr Parameshwar said. “Dr Ambedkar was of the view that SCs should not be further categorised into different groups. We should follow his words. We should not create sub-castes among ourselves. Unless we unite, we can’t overcome the discrimination of caste.”

He reminded the SCs how they could not get the CM post once and added that they might lose power again if they did not unite. The DCM’s statement assumes significance in the wake of the Congress’ attempts to woo Dalit voters.

Earlier speaking to reporters, Dr Parameshwar said that the Congress party is making preparations for the LS elections. The AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka K.C. Venugopal has held several meetings in this regard and the party would fight elections along with the coalition partner, JD (S), he said.
