Farmers scheme cash for votes, says P Chidambaram
Chennai: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has termed the PM-kisan scheme as pure bribe for votes.
"Today is the 'Cash for Vote Day'….The BJP government will officially give a bribe of Rs 2,000 per agricultural family to get their votes", PC tweeted on the NDA’s much-publicised programme.
"Nothing can be more shameful in a democracy than 'Bribe for Votes'. The Money will go to the cultivating farmer as well as the absentee landlord", he said in a series of tweets, lamenting this would be funded from public money. "The greater shame is that the Election Commission is unable to stop the 'Bribe for Votes'," PC said.
The Congress senior got some heavy trolling in response to his string of tweets slamming the Kissan Yojana 'bribing'. Many said the Congress had institutionalised the mechanism of bribing the farm sector for votes at poll times - such as the UPA Government's mega farm loan waiver in 2009.
Meanwhile, Chidambaram in an interview to 'Puthiya Thalaimurai' news channel indicated that 'generation of jobs' would be among the main focus points in the UPA poll manifesto that is expected to unfold programmes and projects to revitalise the Indian economy and industry while slamming the Modi regime for flaws in this area.
