Hyderabad: TRS, MIM rift surfaces in Wakf chief election
Hyderabad: Differences cropped up between the TRS and MIM members during the maiden election for the chairman of Telangana State Wakf Board on Friday.
While the newly elected chairman, Mohammed Saleem, MLC of TRS, claimed that the Board managing committee was constituted with the alliance of MIM, none of the Ittehad members either proposed his name nor seconded it for his election as chairman.
The MIM members alleged that the ruling party violated the agreement for the constitution of the committee. Sources pointed out that there was an understanding between TRS and MIM that the latter would support the election of two of the TRS members including Saleem and Mirza Anwar under elected members category since the TRS does not have sufficient number of Muslim MLAs or MLCs to vote in the election.
In return, the TRS has to nominate two members recommended by the MIM under the nomination category, the sources added. The MIM members said though they fulfilled their promise by electing Saleem and Mirza Baig, the TRS nominated only one member though two names were recommended.
The MIM members, boycotted a breakfast meet arranged by deputy chief minister Mahmood Ali at his residence for pre-discussion with members in view of the election at 2.30 pm at Wakf Board office.
Sources said the MIM members had decided to boycott even the election of the chairman but top leaders of the ruling party persuaded them to participate in the election.
The MIM members who were present for the election meeting objected to the nomination of Mr. Waheed Ahmed under category of Islamic scholar and questioned his qualifications in Islamic theology. He could not satisfy the MIM members on the issue but other members of the ruling party intervened and pacified the members.
During election Mirza Anwar Baig proposed the name of Saleem for Chairman and Mallik Motasim nominated member has seconded for it.
