Congress wants KM Mani back before bypoll
Thiruvananthapuram: KPCC political affairs committee on Wednesday decided to hold talks with K. M. Mani to ensure the return of the Kerala Congress to the UDF before the Chengannur by-election.
Senior leaders would talk to Mr Mani to prevent his party heading towards the LDF.
During the meeting of office bearers, Kottayam, DCC president Joshy Philip, Pathanamthitta DCC president Babu George and Idukki DCC president Ibrahimkutty Kallar wanted the leadership to take the lead in inviting back Mr Mani. In the political affairs committee, leaders like P. J. Kurian, K. C. Joseph, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala and Benny Behnan also supported the move.
However, in the press conference held after the meeting, KPCC president M. M. Hassan made it clear that such discussions will be held only if Mr Mani evinced interest.
The meeting also came down heavily on the JDU for its decision to join the LDF. It was not because of ideology but for some political gains for M. P. Veerendrakumar that the party left the UDF.
KPCC in a resolution observed that administrative paralysis continued in the state due to a severe economic crisis.
As Rs 1400 crore was due to contractors, all construction works have come to a standstill, said the resolution moved by general secretary Sooranad Rajasekharan.
The development activities of 1200 local self-government bodies were also at a standstill. Only 30 percent of funds for projects could be utilised so far.
"Bill for annual projects could not be passed due to restrictions in the government treasury. KSRTC pension and ration distribution also had gone haywire,” it said.
The meeting alleged that finance minister T. M. Thomas Isaac was the propagator of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s anti-people policies.
"He hailed GST more than Union ministers did. Within one year, ministers managed to get '3 to 5 lakhs as medical reimbursements,” the resolution said.
