BJP takes dig at Kamal Haasan's remark on not eyeing treasury

The actor-politician had on Tuesday told his fans that he was not forming a political party with an eye on the government treasury.

CHENNAI: Taking a dig at actor Kamal Haasan for claiming that he was not forming a political party with an eye on the government treasury, the state unit of the BJP has said that the people of Tamil Nadu will not believe his words.

“People will not believe Kamal's words. He has already filled his coffers with the money he had earned by acting in films….only after his treasury is full, he is now saying that his aim is not to make money in politics. This claim cannot be accepted,” BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said on Wednesday.

The actor-politician had on Tuesday told his fans that he was not forming a political party with an eye on the government treasury. “We are not journeying towards the cash chest but towards people's progress. Those who didn't ask the question what is in it for me for the last 37 years will not ask now,” Haasan said during his meeting with his fans at his residence here.

Speaking to reporters here, Dr Tamilisai said her BJP is the only alternative to the Dravidian parties which have been ruling Tamil Nadu for the past five decades. “None can be a better alternative than us,” she said and added that the BJP is preparing itself to become a game changer.

Don't insult Kalam: Taking strong exception to the actor's move to commence his “political journey” from former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's memorial in Rameswaram in the State, Union Minister of State for Finance and Shipping Pon Radhakrishnan said such a move amounts to insulting the people's president.

“My request to Kamal Haasan is this: you are free to enter into politics but don't invoke the name of former President Kalam who is above politics, caste and religion. Using his name will amount to insulting and belittling him. If you start this, it will set a wrong precedence for all political leaders in future. So, drop the move,” the Minister urged while speaking to reporters in Nagercoil on Wednesday.
