BJP slams BRS for blaming Centre after misusing MGNREGA funds

HYDERABAD: The BJP on Saturday said that BRS was deliberately blowing out of proportion the Centre seeking refund of Rs 152 crore of MGNREGA funds that the state government had used in violation of guidelines.

"The fact is that the state used the funds for works not listed as approved under MGNREGA guidelines. All it requires is for an official from the state to go to Delhi, explain to the ministry how the funds were used to sort it out. But instead of doing this, minister K.T. Rama Rao and BRS leaders are making it an issue where none exists," BJP state secretary Dr S. Prakash Reddy told reporters.

He clarified that the ministry's online system recognised that construction of crop drying platforms was not part of the approved MGNREGA works and flagged it. Following an audit, the state was asked to refund the money. A technical issue is being projected as an issue of BJP being against Telangana farmers,” Reddy said.

Party spokesperson Kishore Poreddy said that the budgetary share for education in Telangana was 11.9 per cent in 2014 but it had fallen to 6.2 now.

Another party spokesperson J Sangappa said students in schools and colleges lament lack of toilets, poor food, and abysmal infrastructure facilities.
