Civic polls, minus GHMC, on January 22

The State Election Commission (SEC) will issue the notification on January 7.

Hyderabad: Elections to 120 urban local bodies (ULBs) and 10 municipal corporations will be held on January 22. Counting will be held on January 25 and the results would be declared immediately.

Barring the Greater Hyderabad, Khammam and Warangal municipal corporations, 10 corporations including Karimnagar, Ramag-undam, Nizamabad will go to the polls. Municipal corporations including Badangpet, Meerpet, Bandlaguda Jagir, Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Jawaharnagar and Nizampet on the city outskirts and over 50 urban local bodies will take part in the voting in the independent entities for the first time.

The State Election Commission (SEC) will issue the notification on January 7. Candidates can file nominations between January 8 and 10. Scrutiny will be on January 11, candidates can appeal rejection of nominations on January 12.

The appeals will be disposed of on January 13. The last date of withdrawal of nominations is January 14 and list of candidates will be published the same day.

The SEC official said that the wardwise electoral rolls will be published on January 8. They said that the model code of conduct (MCC) will come into effect immediately after the poll notification.

However, there was still confusion prevailing over the reservation of wards. When asked, officials claimed that the SEC was verifying voter data from 2,727 wards in urban local bodies and 385 wards in municipal corporations.

The SEC will publish draft electoral list on December 30 and receive claims and objections from December 31 to January 2.

The final ward-wise voter list would be published on January 4.
