Thrissur: The state government has taken up the cause of encroachers and forest mafia, according to Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala. “This is clear from the fact that the CPM had supported the encroachers in the case of former transport minister Thomas Chandy and the Neelakurinji sanctuary in Idukki,” he told reporters on the sidelines of K. Karunakaran death anniversary here on Saturday.
“The stand taken by the CPI in such matters is opportunistic and to hoodwink the public. The ministers should read the pulse of the people rather than merely sign on the paper brought by officials,” he said. Addressing the meeting, he recalled that K. Karunakaran had played a major role in the creation of modern Kerala. “Kerala was liberated from Naxalites due to the vigil of strong administrators like Karunakaran who nipped them in the bud,” Mr Ramesh said.
