Demonetisation: Congress leaders say people's woes ignored
Guntur: Protests against demonetisation continues with the Congress holding Prasniddam Randi (let’s question) protest in Amaravati on Friday.
The party initially decided to hold the protest in front of Temporary Secretariat at Velagapudi but following objections by security officials, the venue was changed to Nidamarru and then to Tullur of Amaravati Capital Region.
APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy held Prime Minister Narendra Modi responsible for the crisis and demanded an end to the long queues at banks and reopening of ATMs. He demanded a probe by Supreme Court judge in the demonetisation illegalities.
Addressing the protest, Mr Reddy alleged that demonetisation helped the corrupt leaders to change their black money into white. He claimed that union minister M Venkaiah Naidu leaked information to AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu and TD ministers, legislators and leaders who exchanged their old notes with the leaked information.
Mr. Modi pledged to bring back black money from foreign countries but failed to do so, he said. He has turned the innocent public “cashless” by snatching their legally earned money, he added. There are 19 per cent illiterates and 21 per cent with poor education who don’t understand online transactions, he said and demanded the government not to impose online transactions.
He said that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi tried to end the difficulties of the public due to demonetisation but Mr Modi ridiculed his efforts.
