Karimnagar: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao was against the Dalit people and was treating the community as a vote bank while trying to suppress them politically, alleged Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati.
Speaking at an election campaign meeting in support of BSP candidate Dasari Usha from Peddapalli, Mayawati said that it was because of the Indian Constitution written by Dr B.R. Ambedkar that the weaker sections of people who were oppressed by the upper castes were able to get opportunities in education, employment and politics.
Because of the movement led by Kanshiram demanding implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations, the people of OBC communities were able to get enhanced reservations in education and jobs.
Mayawati said that when she won the Lok Sabha election in 1998, then Prime Minister V.P. Singh had promised her a Union minister’s post but she refused and asked for the implementation of the Mandal Commission report.
He said that the Congress had opposed giving the Bharat Ratna to Dr Ambedkar and did not express condolences when Kanshiram died. The Congress and the BRS were against the Dalit communities and will never do justice to the weaker sections.
After a lot of struggle, the people of Telangana were able to achieve statehood but the BRS and the BJP did not render justice to them she said and accused both parties of indulging in corruption. The BJP government at the Centre was supportive of the upper class communities and adopting economic policies in their support.
The BSP chief said that Chandrashekar Rao was discriminating against the Dalit community and it was as a part of this that the BRS government had lodged a false murder case against Punit, the son of BSP state president R.S. Praveen Kumar.
“The people must teach a fitting lesson to the BJP, BRS and the Congress which are inclined against the OBC, SC and ST communities. The people elect the BSP for handing over power to the weaker sections,” Mayawati said.
