BJP debacle certain in BBMP, claims AAP

BENGALURU: State government’s plea to Karnataka HC, seeking three months time to fix reservation of wards to hold elections to Bruhar Bengaluru Nagara Palike (BBMP) has drawn flack from Aam Aadmi Party state unit on Thursday.

The BBMP polls were to be held in 2020 and even after the High Court reprimanded the State Government to hold elections nothing substantial happened.

“It is a testimony to the cowardice of the BJP that the State Government is trying to postpone the BBMP election,” said AAP’S Bengaluru unit president Mohan Dasari, adding that the ruling party was aware of the BBMP results.

The State Government was seeking an extension “out of fear” of losing the elections as they were aware that the poll results would have adverse effects on the prospects of the party in the forthcoming Assembly polls in the State scheduled in 2023, he said.

Further, Mohan Dasari suspected that the State Government was conspiring to conduct the BBMP elections along with or after the Assembly polls. He also alleged that the opposition parties Congress and Janata Dal Secular (JDS) were quiet on BBMP elections as neither pressed the State Government on holding BBMP polls early.

Dasari exuded confidence that AAP would get majority in BBMP polls and criticised major political parties-BJP, Congress and JDS afraid of losing elections and showing solidarity in postponing the BBMP elections.

The AAP leader also stated that his party has been getting considerable support in Bengaluru and also across the State and is confident of a good performance in both BBMP and Assembly polls in 2023.
