CPM meet today; to push for LDF unity

The leadership will discuss organizational issues including the progress of organizational conferences taking place across the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretariat on Friday is set to discuss a host of political and organizational issues. The CPM leadership will formally discuss the demand of NCP to re-induct A. K. Saseendran into LDF ministry following the clean chit given by P. S. Antony commission. NCP state president T. P. Peethambaran has already held formal negotiations with the LDF convenor. The CPM is not averse to Mr Saseendran coming back to the Cabinet. Moreover, it wants NCP to occupy its ministerial slot which fell vacant following Thomas Chandy's resignation.

The party leadership will discuss organizational issues including the progress of organizational conferences taking place across the state. While the CPM-CPI differences which came to the fore during Thomas Chandy episode may not come up prominently since the matter was also taken up at the last secretariat held in Kochi, they will discuss the need for strengthening LDF unity in the wake of the attacks being unleashed by the UDF and BJP.

The party is expected to discuss the opposition from certain quarters including SNDP and organisations belonging to other backward communities to the government decision to implement 10 per cent reservation for the economically poor among forward communities in Devaswom board appointments. The party leadership is of the opinion that the matter needs to be discussed with these organisations to allay their fears regarding the existing reservation policy.
