Huzurnagar, prestige issue for TRS

The party had lost 2 LS seats in the erstwhile Nalgonda district this year.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi sees the by-election for the Huzurnagar assembly seat as a matter of prestige, having lost two Lok Sabha seats in the erstwhile Nalgonda district in the 2019 general election.

The Election Commission on Monday announced the holding of the by-election in the constituency, necessitated by the resignation of TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy who won the Nalgonda Lok Sabha seat.

Soon after the notification, TRS boss K Chandrasekhar Rao announced his candidate for the seat, S. Saidireddy, who had lost the election from this constituency by 7,000 votes to Uttam Kumar Reddy in the December 2018 Assembly elections.

After announcing the candidate, the TRS president is said to have finalised the campaign plan and poll strategy. Sources in the TRS disclosed that the party boss has decided to deploy more than half a dozen ministers of his Cabinet to camp in Huzurnagar to ensure the victory of the TRS nominee, including G Jagadish Reddy, Srinivas Goud, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Sabita Indra Reddy and Satyawathi Rathod.

The party's working president K T Rama Rao will hold road shows in the constituency, sources disclosed, while Finance Minister T Harish Rao is also said to have been given responsibility for the party candidate's winning the seat. Sources revealed that the MP for Khammam, Nama Nageswara Rao, and party general secretary Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, V Chander Rao and other senior party leaders have also been roped in to ensure a victory for the party's candidate. They will camp in the constituency.
