All arrangements for TN bypolls on: CEO Satyabrata Sahu

Chennai: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Satyabrata Sahu said here on Monday that arrangements were going on in full swing for the two Assembly by-elections from Vikkravandi and Nanguneri constituencies slated for October 21.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat here, he gave details of the two constituencies. In Vikkravandi, the total number of voters till September 21 are 2,23,456. This includes 1,11,721 male voters 1,11,710 women, and others 25.

The CEO said in Nanguneri, the total electorate is 2,57,042, which includes 1,27,341 men, 1,29,698 women and others three. While Vikkravandi will have 275 polling stations in 139 locations, Nanguneri will have 299 polling stations in 170 locations.

Replying to a question, Mr. Sahu said officials will strictly implement the poll code of conduct and take necessary action to prevent distribution of gifts to voters on the eve of Deepavali festival.

TN MUSIC VARSITY NAMED AFTER JAYA

Meanwhile, the State government has issued a G.O. naming the Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts University after former Chief Minister, Dr J Jayalalithaa. The new name will come into force from November 14 this year.

The university vice-chancellor, Dr Prameela Gurumurthy said naming it after Jayalalithaa is very apt as Amma was an eminent singer, dancer and versatile artiste. “We suggested her name for the university at her birthday function this year and Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami accepted it immediately,” she added.
