No graft in power deals: Transco boss D Prabhakar Rao
Hyderabad: TS Genco and Transco chairman and managing director D. Prabhakar Rao on Friday denied allegations made by the BJP state president Dr K. Laxman that there was a scam in the state government’s power purchase deals.
Addressing mediapersons Mr Rao said: “The BJP’s statements are ba-seless and we challenge BJP to call for a CBI investigation. Laxman is misinformed. (We are) providing quality electricity to the people in a very transparent way.”
Expanding on the subject of power contracts, he said that it was unrealistic to say that power purchase agreements (PPAs) were done overnight. He said there were no such PPA deals anywhere. “We are ready for a CBI inquiry if there is any doubt about the performance of the power companies,” he said.
Mr Rao accused the BJP of spreading false propaganda against power companies.
He said it was incorrect to say that after the formation of Telangana state, not a single MW of power was added.
At the time of the formation of the state, the Genco and Transco chief 71 MW of solar power was generated which has reached 3,600 MW now. At the formation of the state, the installed power was 7,775 MW; it is now 16,203 MW.
