Vijayawada: The BJP on Saturday launched ‘temples yatra’ to press for protection of Hindu dharma and temples in the State.
BJP state president Somu Veerraju started the yatra by visiting Kanaka Durga temples and offering special pujas with MLC PVN Madhav and other leaders.
They performed special pujas at Saiva Kshetram on the banks of Krishna river and felicitated Seer Siva Swamy on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
Veerraju questioned Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy the reason behind his silence despite frequent attacks on temples and why the 40 demolished temples were not rebuilt. He alleged that Reddy has been promoting Christianity in all its forms and ignoring Hinduism. He alleged that the government was building churches with public money and has been paying salaries to pastors and mullahs.
The BJP leader stated that Hindus are up-in-arms over the failure of the government in controlling attacks on temples, destruction of idols and burning of chariots. It has failed to nab the culprits although the incidents were of a year ago.
Later Veerraju along with the party Narasaraopet parliamentary district president Saida Rao, and secretary Sudhakar Yadav visited Trikoteswara Swamy temple atop Kotappakonda.
Meanwhile, Guntur east MLA Md. Mustafa, district collector Vivek Yadav and others wished an impressive medal haul by the Indian contingent in Tokyo Olympics. ‘Cheer for India Tokyo Olympics’ 5K run was held in Gunturon Saturday in which sportspersons and people participated. District collector Vivek Yadav, Mustafa and Guntur mayor Kavati Siva Naga Manohar Naidu jointly flagged-off the run, organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sanghatan and Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Mustafa and Yadav said that every Indian is hoping for many medals from Indian athletes.
Manohar Naidu expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh athletes competing in Tokyo would excel in their respective disciplines.
