People living in GWMC limits facing hardships after rain: BJP

WARANGAL: With no proper roads, unscientific laying of drainage canals and with the leakage of pipelines, residents of several colonies in the GWMC limits are having a hard time, said BJP leader Errabelli Pradeep Rao.

Pradeep Rao along with other BJP leaders took rounds of various colonies that were affected by the heavy rain. As an immediate relief, he distributed cheques of Rs 2,000 each to around 60 families in Warangal city on Tuesday. Rao is chairman of Warangal urban cooperative bank.

He alleged that the local MLA and officials ignored repeated requests from residents for steps to protect the people living in low-lying areas from floods.

Because of heavy rain in recent days, several houses were damaged and many of them became shelter-less. Several houses were submerged in the flood waters and there were the uprooting of electric poles and trees, the BJP leaders said.

“The officials did not take up repair of the electricity poles till date and the people are living in the dark for the past few days.

There is a danger of the electricity wires falling further. The officials must take immediate repair works and protect the lives of the people,” Pradeep Rao said.

He alleged that in the nine years of rule, the BRS government did not sanction even a single double-bedroom houses to the poor families in Warangal city. “The Dalit Bandhu payments are also being sanctioned to the eligible poor from the SC community. Instead, the money is given to BRS party workers and they boast that they helped the poor.”

BJP leaders Kusuma Satish, Venkataramana, Srinivas and Venkatesh were among those present.
