It's advantage UDF, says CM Oommen Chandy
Thrissur: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Saturday exuded confidence that the UDF would return to power with a comfortable majority in the elections.
“My first phase of electioneering has been completed in all the districts and the response of the people has given me confidence to win the elections,” he told reporters on Saturday.
Responding to a query on the backlash suffered by the UDF in the local body elections last year, Mr Chandy said that only in the grama panchayats the LDF had an edge.
“In the local bodies, the elections are contested not on the basis of the political ideologies but on the personalities of the candidates. Going by the votes gained by those who contested on party symbols, the UDF had an upper hand in the local body elections,” he claimed.
The elections to the municipalities /corporation and district panchayats were contested on politics, and the UDF and the LDF had a neck-and-neck fight in these civic bodies.
On several allegations of corruption and handing over of large stretches of government land to the corporates and private individuals, Mr Oommen Chandy said that they were all allegations and none of them had been proved.
