Chennai: When it comes to poll violations, both ruling AIADMK and DMK stand out in comparison with other national and regional parties in the state.
Ruling AIADMK tops the list of poll violations booked by EC since last month. Of the total 2,764 FIRs booked, AIADMK accounts for 632 cases, followed by DMK with 530 cases and DMDK 155 cases, said chief electoral officer Rajesh Lakhoni.
National parties including Congress, BJP and Left all put together registered less than 200 complaints. There were also complaints against fledging parties like TMC and Namm Thamizhar Katchi, he said.
According to data available with poll officials, PMK was involved in 104 cases followed by VCK with 92 cases. Most of the violations were related to distribution of freebies, attempt to distribute cash for votes, putting up posters and graffiti in government places and campaigning without prior permissions, poll official said.
For the second consecutive day, Karur remained tense following huge cash seizures. Based on two searches, one in a shed and other in a house, the squads seized cash of Rs 10.3 lakh.
