Tamil Nadu: Youth form crucial portion of RK Nagar constituency

Chennai: Young voters of Radhakrishnan Nagar will play a crucial role in electing their MLA as those in the age group of 20-39 years form a whopping 60 per cent of the total voters’ population in the constituency.

There are also about 50,000 voters in the age group of 40-49 years; the total electorate population in the by poll bound constituency is 2.62 lakh. According to public election department sources, the constituency has recorded an increase of 8,224 new first time voters, when compared to the last year and this includes 4,418 women voters.

In case of senior citizens (above 60 years and 80 plus years of age) the total electorates will be around 27,000 forming a meager population of less than 10 per cent. Women constitute, around 52 per cent of voters’ population and 109 of them have enrolled as third gender, election department sources said.

Going by the last three poll history in R K Nagar, the constituency has recorded a polling percentage ranging from 64 to 68 per cent and the poll percentage has been relatively higher, when compared to the constituencies in south Chennai.

Further R K Nagar had always seen women voters vibrant exercising their franchise. The polling percentage is usually higher among the first time voters. The polling percentage also dips in the age group of 40 to 55, sources added.

“We have already roped in young party workers in north Chennai and R K Nagar to effectively campaign among the women and the middle aged voters and this would ensure the victory of our party AIADMK rebel candidate E. Madhusudhanan,” said an party office-bearer in Panneerselvam camp.
