Differences crop up among senior Congress leaders in Adilabad district

ADILABAD: Differences cropped up among senior Congress leaders aspiring for party tickets in the next assembly polls in the erstwhile Adilabad district.

Former MLC, K Premsagar Rao, announced a list of names for four out of 10 assembly constituencies in the district. He said some leaders who recently joined the Congress from other parties were trying for tickets that would harm the senior leaders who toiled for the party for long years.

Rao said Chilumula Shankar from Bellampalli, Dr Vennela Ashok from Boath, Nookal Ramesh from Chennur and Dr Ganesh Rathod from Asifabad have been working hard to strengthen the party in their assembly areas and the party would support them.

Some leaders who quit other parties and came into the Congress were organising programmes on their own without giving information to the DCC of Mancherial. They are creating confusion among the party cadre and others behaving in ways that would reduce the people’s faith in the party, he said.

Many Congress leaders from different groups within the district are aspiring for the party ticket in their respective assembly constituency, causing a clash of interests among Congressmen.

AICC programmes implementation committee chairman for Telangana, Aleti Maheshwar Reddy is also promoting his favourites in Adilabad, Khanapur and Boath for the next assembly polls.

Congress leaders Vedma Bojju, Bharath Chowhan and Charulatha Rathod are aspiring party tickets for the Khanapur seat.

Notably, SC and ST Congress leaders and ticket- aspirants are divided into groups led by the senior leaders. Surprisingly, these groups are not active in the ‘general’ constituencies but for reserved seats. There are two SC and three ST reserved assembly constituencies out of a total of 10 constituencies in the district.

Former Minister Gaddam Vinod who contested on a BSP ticket from Bellampalli in the last elections had joined the Congress and is now planning to contest the next polls on a Congress ticket.

A cold war erupted between Gaddam Vinod and Premsagar Rao after a close association between them for some time. Differences cropped up as Rao started promoting his own candidate and senior leader Chilumula Shankar in the Bellampalli constituency.

Former BRS MLA Nalalla Odelu of Chennur and Mancherial ZP chairperson Nallala Bhagyalaxmi joined the Congress a few months ago and soon returned to the BRS. This, was after differences cropped up between Rao and Nallala Odelu after they joined the Congress.

Senior leader Marsakola Saraswati joined the Congress recently in the presence of TPCC president Revanth Reddy. She is an aspirant for the party ticket from the Asifabad assembly constituency.
