Will finalise seat-sharing with DMK soon: Thol Thirumavalavan

Meanwhile, MDMK chief Vaiko said his party's support to the DMK would continue for the Assembly election too.

Chennai: The seat-sharing accord between the DMK and VCK will be finalised and announced in a couple of days’ time, VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan has said.

“We have furnished a list of constituencies that we wish to contest in the DMK alliance and the number of seats and constituencies would be finalised and announced in about two days’ time,” Mr. Thirumavalavan said. Speaking to reporters here on Saturday he said people would reject the “opportunistic” alliance of the AIADMK and PMK and the secular all-iance led by the DMK will register a massive victory.

Asked if the DMDK would join the DMK combine, he replied only the DMK president M K. Stalin could decide on alliance and make an announcement. To a question he said “the wishes of Jayakumar (Fisheries Minister) will not materialise. The DMK front would surely win the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in a big way.”

Meanwhile, MDMK chief Vaiko said his party’s support to the DMK would continue for the Assembly election too. Talking to reporters in Tiruchy he said he has aligned with the DMK to protect the Dravidian movement. “This decision was taken a year ago. The MDMK will be supportive to the DMK,” Mr. Vaiko said.

The DMK has been holding talks with the allies since the last three days and it had finalised seat-sharing with the Congress and IUML. It had held preliminary talks with other allies MDMK, VCK, and the left parties. The DMK is likely to contest from 25 seats on par with the seats that the ruling AIADMK would contest from about 40 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and lone seat in Puducherry. The Manithaneya Makkal Katchi is likely to contest on the rising sun symbol of the DMK. Out of total 40 seats, about 15 seats would be apportioned among the allies. But the final decision would be made after Mr. Stalin who is currently addressing Gram Sabha meetings, returns to the city by Feb. 25. Thereafter the seat-sharing accord with allies would be finalised.
