Bengaluru: In what could well be termed as rebellion against the style of functioning of state Janata Dal (Secular) president, H.D. Kumaraswamy, legislator Pilla Muniswamappa quit his membership of the Legislative Assembly, on Thursday, bringing to the fore bickering within the party.
Mr Muniswamappa met Speaker K.B. Koliwad, submitted his resignation letter, and appealed to him to accept it forthwith.
Mr Koliwad, however, said that he would take a decision as per the rules.
Sources in Janata Dal (Secular) said that much to Mr Muniswamappa’s discomfiture, the party inducted ticket aspirant Nisarga Narayanaswamy reportedly launched subtle campaign in the villages around Devanahalli town.
He even told people that he would be the party’s candidate for Devanahalli Assembly constituency for which election will be held in 2018.
This irked Mr Muniswamappa who took the extreme step of heading to the Speaker’s office to submit his resignation letter.
Later, he told the media he would not reconsider his decision to quit as MLA and blamed Bhoje Gowda from Chikkamagaluru for inducting Mr Narayanaswamy into the party.
Meanwhile, Mr Kumaraswamy contacted Mr Muniswamappa and tried to placate him only to be told that it would be difficult for him to withdraw his resignation following such humiliation by the party.
