UP polls: In video message, Sonia Gandhi appeals people to vote for Congress

This is the first time in two decades that Ms Gandhi missed campaigning in Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi Thursday released a video asking people to vote for the party. Ms Gandhi said India was suffering “under the misrule of the (Narendra) Modi government”.

This is the first time in two decades that Ms Gandhi missed campaigning in Uttar Pradesh. Her parliamentary constituency is Rae Bareli.

In the video, Ms Gandhi said, “It is a matter of pride that serving the people has become an integral part of our family’s existence. The special relationship between you and me is the biggest wealth of my life.”

She said people in Amethi and Rae Bareli have always supported the Congress, and they should vote for the party this time as well.

She said farmers in UP are unhappy and homemakers are trying to make ends meet. A day after issuing an appeal to voters the Congress President Sonia Gandhi released a video asking the electorate to vote for Congress. Hitting out at the central government Mrs. Gandhi said that the country is suffering 'under the misrule of the Modi government'. This is the first time in two decades that the Congress President would be missing the campaign in Uttar Pradesh where her parliamentary constituency Rae Barielly is situated.
