ZP-TP polls: Independents hold the key

It remains to be seen what CM Siddaramaiah will do now, after lashing out at H.D. Kumaraswamy over watch controversy during elections.

Bengaluru: The JD(S) may not have lived up to expectations in the ZP/ TP polls but Mr Deve Gowda’s party along with Independents have virtually emerged ‘kingmakers’ in as many as 11 Zilla Panchayats which produced a fractured verdict on Tuesday.

It remains to be seen what Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah will do now, after lashing out at JD(S) state president, H.D. Kumaraswamy over the watch controversy during the elections.

He had mocked Mr Kumaraswamy saying the JD(S) was becoming irrelevant in the state's political map. This had led to a fierce exchange of words between the two leaders throughout the campaign.

Ironically, the same Mr Siddaramaiah while speaking to reporters at his home office, Krishna, as the ZP poll results were coming in, said the Congress was not averse to forging an alliance with anyone other than the communal BJP to wrest control in the 11 ZPs where no party had a majority.

"We have already initiated a dialogue process with independents and like minded parties in various districts where the Congress needs marginal support to wrest power," the CM declared.
