HASSAN: Daughter-in-law of former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, Bhavani Revanna, won the Halekote ZP seat defeating her nearest Congress candidate Sunil by a margin of 4,689 votes when the results were announced on Tuesday.

Bhavani polled 12, 232 votes while Sunil secured 7, 534 votes. It was speculated that Ms Bhavani would defeat Mr Sunil by a huge margin with JD(S) workers expecting the victory margin to be 10,000 votes.

Earlier, in 1985, Halekote was won by Bhavani’s husband H.D. Revanna, Holenarsipur MLA. After her win, Ms Bhavani told mediapersons that she has an additional responsibility after her victory in the ZP poll. She attributed her victory to the blessings of Mr Deve Gowda.
