TRS Corporators in a spot of bother

The TRS corporators had joined the Telugu Desam before Assembly elections despite attempts by MLA Ajay Kumar to stop them.

Khammam: The TRS corporators who joined the Telugu Desam before Assembly elections are now in a spot of bother; the corporation has started moves to get them declared ineligible for the posts.

Corporators Thota Rama Rao, Aathukuri Hanuman and Ch. Nageswara Rao had joined the TD on December 7.

The Khammam Municipal Corporation general body meeting held on Wednesday resolved unanimously to recommend to the government to declare them ineligible to hold the post under the Anti-Defection Act.

The three corporators opposed the move saying that the general body meeting had no right to suspend them or make any recommendation to the government.

However, the Council passed the resolution and sent it to the government. Barring the Congress and CPM, all TRS corporators backed the move.

Opposing the move, Congress corporators Afroz Sameena said that it was not a proper way to deal with the issue. She and her party colleagues Vaddeboina Narasimha Rao, Balagangadhar Tilak and Nagandla Deepak Chowdary walked out from the meeting in protest. At one stage, Mr Rama Rao shouted against the move and mike was not given to him.

This led to some chaotic scenes.

Earlier, when the meeting began, the members expressed condolence at the demise of former corporators.

Later, election of Puvvada Ajay Kumar was taken up in the agenda. Across the party lines, all corporators praised Mr Kumar for his win and asked him to allocate more time for the development of the town.

Immediately after, the resolution on suspension of the three corporators was taken up and passed.

It’s learnt that Mr Kumar insisted on the move. The three corporators had caused embarrassment to the MLA by joining the TD a few days before the elections. Though Mr Kumar tried to convince the trio, he failed.
