Pondicherry Congress workers stage demo

The protesters led by Chief Minister V Narayanasamy raised slogans against the BJP-led government at the Centre over the move.

Puducherry: Congress workers in the Union Territory staged a demonstration here on Tuesday protesting the withdrawal of subsidy for Haj pilgrims, by the Centre.

The protesters led by Chief Minister V Narayanasamy raised slogans against the BJP-led government at the Centre over the move.

While addressing the workers, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the NDA government in the Centre is doing injustice to the Muslim community through measures affecting their tra-ditions and conventions.

Alleging that the government in the Centre has proved that it is 'anti-minority' through various of its policies , the Chief Minister said that the welfare of the Minorities are being neglected ever since the government came to power.

“Christians and Muslims in the country were facing hardships due to the policies of the central government. How can a government interfere in the food habit of the people and traditional practices of a particular community,” he said.

PWD minister A Namasivayam said it has been proved that the safety of the minorities can be assured only during Congress rule. On January 16 this year, minority mffairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi announced the Centre's decision to withdraw the subsidy for Haj pilgrimage.

The Haj subsidy is provided by the government to Indian Muslim pilgrims in the form of discounted flight prices.
