Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar gives religious touch to poll
Mangaluru: After Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde's controversial statements, Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar is in the news now for his speech.
Sunil Kumar. also known for his hardcore Hindutva speeches, during a speech at the BJP's programme at Bantwal on Monday, raked up a new controversy when he stated that the election at Bantwal ‘was between Allah and Rama.’
"It is the question of self esteem of Hindus. A six time MLA (Ramanath Rai) says that he has won the election with Allah’s blessings. I want to tell the people that this election is not between Ramanath Rai and Rajesh Naik (BJP leader) but Allah and Rama," Sunil Kumar told.
The video clipping of this statement went viral in social media attracting support and opposition. He continued, "People of Bantwal should decide who should win this time. Should it be a person who believes in Rama or in Allah? This is the election issue this time in Bantwal. This (election) is not between the Congress and BJP," he said.
"A six time MLA says that he does not need Hindu votes. It is the question of self esteem of Hindus. It is not only the question of Bantwal but of the entire district," he added. An FIR has been registered against Sunil Kumar at Bantwal Town Police station alleging he was trying to create hatred between the two communities.
