A K Antony misleading minorities: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan on Tuesday slammed Congress leader A. K. Antony's statement that his party wanted Modi government to continue. In a statement, he said his remarks were baseless and indicated his political pauperism. The draft political resolution approved for the 22nd party congress is to dislodge Modi. He claimed that the mandate against NDA in 2004 was the result of a nationwide agitation by the left and other secular and democratic parties.
He said even at that time the CPM had not entered into any understanding or alliance with the Congress. In West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura, the Left front candidates had defeated both the Congress and NDA to win 61 seats in Parliament. The Congress failed to win even a single seat in Kerala. The Left MPs later supported the UPA to keep the BJP-led NDA out.
He accused Mr Antony, who was a member of the UPA cabinet the CPM supported, deliberately making such statements to mislead minorities. He wondered why the UPA government failed to take concrete measures to contain the growth of communal forces. He accused the UPA of deviating from the common minimum programme by vigorously implementing neoliberal economic policies. He said RSS had declared CPM as its enemy No one during their conference in Coimbatore. He said the Congress was nowhere to be seen when Sangh Parivar unleashed a nationwide campaign against his party and even attacked its offices.
