Venkaiah Naidu sees red after Left leaders' jibe at RSS

Mr Naidu also accused the Congress and DMK of adopting an opportunistic stand on the issue.

Hyderabad: Accusing the communists of being a divisive force and trying to create confrontations between communities, Union minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday lashed out against the Left parties for their continued criticism of the RSS.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of Geospatial World Forum 2017, Mr Naidu said that statements of Left leaders on Dalit rights and untouchability were “very strange” since they could not speak on this issue over the past 69 years.

Mr Naidu was responding to the comments of Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy that the RSS was calling the shots and Central government policies were being dictated by the Sangh Parivar.

“RSS is a patriotic organisation extending selfless service with discipline, dedication and devotion. Lakhs of its activists help people at the time of natural calamities in any part of the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Union minister appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu not to get carried away on the Jallikattu issue. He said that the Central and state governments respect the cultural ethos of the people, but at the same time were duty-bound to ensure peace. Mr Naidu also accused the Congress and DMK of adopting an opportunistic stand on the issue.
