Congress to support TJAC

Mr Reddy said CM failed to take up ITIR project and questioned why he didn't broach the issue with Centre.

Hyderabad: The Congress has decided to support all parties and organisations fighting against the “anti-people policies” of the TRS government.

During an informal chat with mediapersons here, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that he did not foresee TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram floating a political party despite “pressure”.

Reminding that AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi will address a “Yuva Garjana” to be held at Arts College, Osmania University campus after Parliament session and UP polls, Mr Reddy said, “I don’t think Prof. Kodandram plans to establish a political party. In the present political scenario, there is a need for “anti government forces” to come on one platform.”

Stating that the Congress has lost youths and students in the last polls, he said that Mr Gandhi was keen to enlist their support in TS by addressing their issues.

“Mr Gandhi has instructed us to encourage youths in the party and take up youths’ issues. In this regard, we have planned Yuva Garjana,” Mr Reddy said.

He released a five-song Telugu audio CD titled “Tuglaq” on demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes and the people being pushed into turmoil by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mr Reddy disclosed he would participate in the Maha Padayatra conducted by CPM leader Tammineni Veerabhadram during his tour of Nalgonda district. He said CM failed to take up ITIR project and questioned why he didn’t broach the issue with Centre.

In an open letter to the CM, Mr Reddy had demanded the government release Rs 711 crore input subsidy sanctioned by the Centre to compensate farmers hit by natural calamities in 2015.

“From an honest assessment of Rs 5,000 crore worth relief requirement, the Central government approved only Rs 989 crore. Since relief has been slow or meagre, farmers’ indebtedness to banks continues and that has led to dependence on private loans at exorbitant interest rates,” he said.

Mr Reddy also accused TRS government of deliberately neglecting the problems being faced by teachers in TS.
