BJP leader warns CM Pinarayi Vijayan of palace coup'

The Kannur lobby was attempting to stage a palace coup by portraying the chief minister as a failure, he said.

Kottayam: The BJP has alleged that the Kannur lobby of the CPM led by state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was attempting to capture the chief minister's chair. "This is why the CPM is committing political murders in Kannur district though Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had assured an all-party meeting that no violence will happen in the district," BJP national executive committee member P.K. Krishnadas told reporters here on Monday.

The Kannur lobby was attempting to stage a palace coup by portraying the chief minister as a failure, he said. "The CM should make his stand clear regarding the issue. In spite of the CM's assurance, five murders were committed with the consent of the CPM state leadership," Mr Krishnadas alleged. There was a plan in the CPM to portray the chief minister as an inefficient administrator, he added.

The political atmosphere in the state was favourable for a liberation struggle as the law and order situation was in disarray, he said. Women also have no safety, he said referring to the death of party activist Vimala Devi at Palakkad. The silence of the cultural leaders of the state on the atrocities was distressing, he felt.
