Bengaluru: With the byelections to 15 assembly constituencies round the corner, politicians of all hues are once again gunning for each other as they compete to curry favour with the people.
With many now having discovered social media, it has become a favourite platform for exchange of barbs.
On Friday, it was the turn of two former Chief Ministers of the state, D V Sadananda Gowda, and Siddaramaiah to use it to cross swords.
Mr Gowda, who is currently Union minister for chemicals and fertilisers, took the first shot at Mr Siddaramaiah on Twitter, saying, “He is all alone. No one supports him in the Congress and the party is going to lose the byelections. And so Mr Siddaramaiah seems to have lost his mental balance and is making all sorts allegations.”
Within hours, the Congress leader tweeted back to say, “ I sympathise with Mr Sadananda Gowda. After becoming Chief Minister, he went on to the railways, planning and then became manure in his own party, which is why he is making such statements.”
Unfazed, Mr Gowda retorted, “Yes, I am manure. But you sucked the blood of your party leaders and remained a PFI sympathizer.”
Quoting the famous lines of poet Kuvempu, “Flowers get life from manure, but the manure does not get to enjoy when flowers make their way to festivals,” he warned Mr Siddaramaiah,
“Don't ridicule others by comparing them to manure. Today or tomorrow you too will fall and become manure.” Whether he had the last word or Mr Siddaramaiah simply chose not to reply, the Twitter war between the two men ended on that note.
