Maitreyan's opinions personal, say leaders

IT min Kadambur Raju and higher edu min KP Anbhazhagan also echoed Thambidurai's views maintaining that Maitreyan was airing his personal opinion.

Chennai: Senior leaders of the unified AIADMK on Wednesday dismissed as “personal opinion” of V. Maitreyan that “hearts have not synced” even three months after the merger of EPS and OPS factions, even as the Rajya Sabha MP insisted that he was “reflecting the sentiments” of majority of cadre.

Senior party leader and Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai led other leaders in asserting that all was well within AIADMK and that there was smooth coordination between Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and his deputy O. Panneerselvam.

“It is his (Maitreyan’s) personal opinion. You need to ask him (why he made such a statement). The AIADMK has been functioning as one party and since we are united, I am quite sure Two Leaves symbol will be allotted to us. We are the original AIADMK that was founded by late M.G. Ramachandran and nurtured by late Amma,” Thambidurai said.

Information minister Kadambur Raju and higher education minister K.P. Anbhazhagan also echoed Thambidurai’s views maintaining that Maitreyan was airing his personal opinion.

“AIADMK has been functioning effectively and MGR centenary celebrations is being organised with participation from all AIADMK leaders. Our deputy chief minister Panneerselvam has been gracing every function and I can assure that there is no division within AIADMK,” Raju said.

“All I can say is what Maitreyan said was his individual opinion,” the minister said. Anbhazhagan told reporters here that the party was united and there were no fissures.
