Election Commission to speed up SVEEP

The main aim of SVEEP is to motivate all citizens to cast their vote.

Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore, the Hyderabad district election officer, said SVEEP (Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation) provided by the Election Commission would be intensified to create voter awareness.

As seen from yesteryears, the percentage of voting in Hyderabad is around 52.46. The main aim of SVEEP is to motivate all citizens to cast their vote.

The DEO said GHMC senior officials in coordination with all NGOs, SHGs, Aasara committees, organisations working with the physically challenged, residents welfare associations, schools and colleges had taken up awareness campaigns for inclusion of those who had attained the age of 18 as on January 1, 2018, so that the percentage of voters could be increased.

The DEO said 15 NGOs and 720 clubs had taken up publicity and awareness campaign about SVEEP till September 25. Mr Kishore said that to create awareness about the working of EVMs and VVPATS, three vans had been deployed and officials had interacted with people and briefed them about the equipment.

A model polling station was being organized at GHMC head office. Apart from this, a voting machine and a VVPAT would be provided for every two wards where demonstrations will be given regarding their functioning at community halls, parks, and ward offices.

Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar had been requested to provide 100 EVMs and VVPATs for the purpose. The first phase of verification of EVMs and VVPATS was going on at Victory Play Ground, Chaderghat and would be completed in 3 to 4 days, Mr Kishore added.
