Let MK Stalin file case, we will face it: D Jayakumar
Chennai: Reacting strongly to DMK chief M. K. Stalin’s ultimatum of initiating legal action on Electricity Minister P. Thangamani, on the alleged irregularities in power purchase from wind farms, Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar dared him to move the court and said his government was prepared to face it legally.
As the war of words escalated between Mr. Stalin and the Electricity Minister, Mr. Thangamani warned that he would be constrained to initiate legal action against Stalin if he continued to indulge in false propaganda against the government.
Retaliating, Mr. Stalin dared the Minister on Friday to file a defamation case within a week or face legal suit from his side and be exposed the way his DMK had uncovered the gutka scam.
“The DMK has now become ‘Panchayat’ party and has taken violence into its hands. The Electricity Minister has already explained in detail that three officials of Tangedco have been suspended for not collecting wheeling charges from a private power company. Let him (Mr. Stalin) file the case. We are prepared to face it legally,” Mr. Jayakumar said reacting to the DMK chief’s challenge.
On actor-legislator Karunus who had stoked a controversy speaking derogatorily against the CM, Deputy CM and a police officer, recently, Mr. Jayakumar told reporters here on Saturday that Karunas “is facing bad time. Soon he would realise the implications.”
“It is unfortunate that we g ot such a worst MLA in Karunas. His remarks are condemnable. He has insulted all castes. If this trend continues, it would lead to caste clashes. On behalf of the AIADMK, we had condemned and even initiated a case. Why has Stalin not condemned him for speaking ill of all castes?” Mr. Jayakumar asked.
Targeting the DMK president, the Minister said, “Stalin had remained silent and did not condemn this Lodukku Pandi (a role cast by Karunas in a Tamil film). He had remained a mute spectator when the Congress stated that it was opposed to freeing the seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.”
He also claimed that Stalin has no locus standi to talk about corruption and said the DMK family was the richest in Asia
