CPI demands Kadiyam SI Sivaji's suspension

Kakinada: Communist Party of India (CPI) state secretary K. Ramakrishna on Tuesday demanded that police authorities suspend and arrest sub-inspector R. Sivaji for torturing a Dalit youth Vaddi Venkata Prasad in Kadiyam police station.

Further, when the youth in custody asked for water, Sivaji had allegedly asked him to drink urine.

Ramakrishna, along with Andhra Pradesh Human Rights Association honorary president Muppalla Subba Rao, AITUC state president Ravulapalli Ravindranath, CPI district secretary Tatipaka Madhu, CPI associate secretary K. Rambabu and district executive member Chintalapudi Anil Kumar visited the hospital in Chagallu of East Godavari district, where Venkata Prasad is undergoing treatment.

They met the victim’s family members and made inquiries about the incident.

The CPI state secretary said East Godavari is known for Dalit movements. There have been several attacks on Dalit men and women in the district.

He underlined that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has come to power with Dalit votes. But he has not responded to acts of insults and attacks against them. He charged that under Jagan’s regime, police are trying to suppress media and people’s associations, apart from taking law into their own hands.

Ramakrishna warned that CPI will be forced to take up a state-wide agitation against the attacks on Dalits.

Muppalla Subba Rao demanded that the government also take action against the Kadiyam station house officer and the constable who brought Venkata Prasad to the police station.
