Hyderabad: In yet another shock to the Telugu Desam, former MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is planning to join the BJP soon. Sources said that BJP national leaders were in touch with Mr Rao, and he was ready to join along with his brother, former MLC Rayapati Srinivas, and others.
Mr Rao is seen as a financially and politically strong leader in Guntur district. Four Telugu Desam Rajya Sabha members had merged with the BJP Parliamentary Party following which several TD leaders joined the party.
Sources close to Mr Rao confirmed that BJP leaders were in touch with him, and that the former MP would take a decision on joining the BJP at an appropriate time. The BJP is trying to get TD MLAs to defect to its side but the latter fear disqualification.
