Congress to focus on Telangana election; Rahul, Sonia to visit state

Both the leaders will visit the state separately to participate in the Praja Chaitanya Bus Yatra conducting by the TPCC.

Hyderabad: The Congress high command has been giving top priority to Telangana state in the hope that the party will come to power in the state in the forthcoming elections.

After a successful two-day visit to Hyderabad, Congress President Rahul Gandhi will visit Telangana in September. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi is also likely to visit Telangana next month. Both the leaders will visit the state separately to participate in the Praja Chaitanya Bus Yatra conducting by the TPCC.

The TPCC has decided to conduct the next phase of the Bus Yatra from September 1. So far, the TPCC has covered about 40 Assembly constituencies through the bus yatra. The party wants to cover all the remaining constituencies in the next phase.

The TRS is very strong in north Telangana region. UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the first time spoke about granting separate statehood to Telangana in the Karimnagar public meeting in the recent past. TPCC is planning to conduct a huge public meeting in this region with Sonia Gandhi.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s son and IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao is representing the ruling party from Karimnagar (old) district. There are speculations that CM KCR may contest from the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency along with the Gajwel Assembly constituency in the forthcoming elections. Keeping this in mind, the TPCC is planning to conduct a public meeting at Karimnagar.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi will participate in a public meeting in south Telangana region. Opposition Leader in the Telangana Legislative Council and the Chairman of TPCC Bus Yatra Committee Shabbier Ali said that they were planning to invite Sonia Gandhi to participate at the end of the Bus Yatra and Rahul Gandhi will participate from another place.
